Kia ora ,

Spring is just around the corner. After the darker, colder months of winter, this time of year can bring a renewed sense of possibility and a chance to check in with what we need to feel well and supported.

For some people, that might mean reaching out for professional support. That's why this month we're featuring a new resource on self-referral for counselling. If you've been wondering whether you need a referral before seeking help, this article explains your options and how to take the next step if the time feels right.

Alongside this, you'll find practical wellbeing resources, updates, and information about the services and support available through our organisation.

Wishing you a gentle start to spring.

New Resource

Can I refer myself for counselling?

If you’ve been thinking about seeking support, you might be wondering whether you need a referral before making an appointment.

In many cases, you can refer yourself directly for counselling — without needing to go through another service first.

We’ve explained how self‑referral works, and how you can access support directly if you wish.

Supportive Resources

How do I manage anxious thoughts?

How do I build resilience?

How do I support others with anxiety?

Need more support?

If anxiety, stress, overwhelm, or other mental health challenges are making daily life difficult, our clinical team may be able to help.

We provide counselling, psychology services, psychiatric support, and a range of other mental health services for children, young people, and adults. Our team includes psychologists, counsellors, a psychiatrist, a health psychologist, a dedicated child psychologist, intern psychologists, and mental health clinicians.

Please note that our clinical services are fee-paying services and are not government funded.

Some people may be eligible for funding assistance. Students, young people, and people on lower incomes may be able to access funding for counselling through Work and Income New Zealand (WINZ) or StudyLink.

We've recently simplified our referral process, making it easier to access support for yourself, refer someone else (with their consent), or make a professional referral.

We also offer a limited number of ADHD assessments for adults aged 25+.

Before starting therapy or counselling, you'll meet with one of our clinicians for a screening appointment to help determine the most suitable support pathway for your needs.
