Anxiety is a normal part of life, and everyone worries sometimes. But what should you do if you or a loved one feels completely overwhelmed by intrusive thoughts or worry?

 

Join us on Thursday, October 8, to hear from and , who will discuss the differences between normal anxiety, interfering anxiety, and overwhelming intrusive fears. You’ll learn more about how these types of worry can be signs of conditions including Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), as well as what we call “healthy worry.” The presenters will also cover coping strategies and treatment approaches.

 

Attendees will learn:

  • How to identify the difference between intrusive thoughts and worry, and the difference between OCD and other types of anxiety.
  • Understand when it makes sense to seek professional help.
  • What effective therapy for intrusive fear looks like and where to find it.

Meet the Presenters

Sharon Batista, MD, is a psychiatrist in private telepsychiatry practice, presently seeing patients in eleven states including NY, NJ, CA, CT, FL, IL, KS, OH, PA, TX, and VA. She specializes in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and related conditions. Dr. Batista provides expert consultation to other clinicians, teaches and supervises psychiatry trainees, and regularly lectures at national conferences on OCD, psychopharmacology, and integrative approaches to care. She is committed to helping individuals navigate evidence-based treatments with clarity and compassion.

Tamar Gordon, PhD, is the Founder and Clinical Director of the in New York. A graduate of Harvard University, St. John’s University, and the NYU Child Study Center’s Post-Doctoral Program, she is passionate about helping people with anxiety across the life-span, from childhood through adulthood. Since completing her PhD in 2005, she has taught and supervised graduate students in Clinical Psychology at Ferkauf Graduate School, NYU, and Columbia Teacher’s College, and consulted to the US Veteran’s Administration on the treatment of Complex PTSD.
