"My friend recently started a sci-fi book club, and our first read was Kindred by Octavia Butler. A young California woman in 1976 gets abruptly time-travelled to an 1815 slave plantation where her ancestors once lived. Through the book, she hops timelines again and again, each time uncovering more about her family history and experiencing what life was like for her ancestors. It's haunting, but hard to put down — and I'm excited to read more of Butler's work. I will note, it's a heavy read with some trigger warnings so be sure to read the summary first." What one reader is looking forward to:"After living with bins in my apartment for over a year I am on the home stretch of getting all my books into bookcases, my art hung, and the bins either given away of out of sight. What a change! It feels like I am finally home!" - AS |
