Gayle Kabaker is a painter, writer, teacher and visual storyteller This Sunday’s Zoom Painting Class + New Art from My StudioLive demos, recording included, and pay-what-you-can access for allThis Sunday, November 23, 1-3 EST Jennifer Orkin Lewis and I are excited to paint a woman in a room full of patterns and color, and some water! (I often get asked to show how I paint water) We’ve both done many paintings to decide what to paint for you all. I’m not totally decided yet on exactly what I will paint but it will be a woman surrounded by pattern with some ocean in the background. The class is a relaxed and welcoming space where we share our techniques and the joy of painting. We will start with a short show-and-tell of our current work, and then move on to two 40-minute live painting demos. While I’m painting, Jennifer will answer questions and vice versa. We share color choices, how we layer the paint, and add the detail. Can’t make it live? Choose the video - only option to paint along at your own pace later. The suggested donation is $40 but pay what you can. We want anyone who is interested to be able to join. Everyone will receive the recording of the full session will be available afterward for all registrants, with no time limit. A percentage of our proceeds will go to local food banks. CommissionAs promised, here’s the final of the commission I showed you parts of in my last newsletter. Now it’s on it’s way to Germany! Interested in a commission? Send me an email! BED SERIESI’m having a lot of fun with my bed series! I’ve painted four that I feel good about! Each one gets bigger. This one is 18”x24.” I’m so into painting patterns right now - perfect timing for our workshop this Sunday! I had a friend model for me, and I found some striped sheets at Salvation Army! (I was making up the stripes in the other ones) ![]() ![]() This one was really hard. It’s 22” x 30” and I’ve never used a background color before. I’ve painted many times on painted backgrounds, but this somehow felt different. The stripes and folds can tend to look wormy and I wasn’t sure what it needed - then I realized while I was taking a shower one night ( showers are my favorite place for inspiration!) that it needed less stripes and a bigger blanket than I’d painted on the others. I watched a new show on Hulu while painting all those dots. Chad Powers first few episodes are laugh out loud funny - it got a bit more serious but i really enjoyed it. I do not often watch TV while I am painting, I mostly listen to music. In the last day I have had Olivia Dean’s song ‘I’ve Seen It’ on repeat. You know how sometimes a song just grabs you? These paintings are part of a series for my show in Leland,Michigan. The opening is August 7 and my plan is to have all the work ready before I leave to teach in Portugal at the end of May. I’m very excited to spend a few weeks in Leland while my show is up! NUDESI love painting from a model on Zoom with some of my artist friends. Below are some paintings from a session this week. Our model Catarina is in Portugal and the artists are all over the world. For a birthday present my husband mounted some of my paintings on wood. I love how they look as a series and I am planning to do a wall of many nudes in the Leland show as well as paintings of Leland, my travels, some portraits and lots of water themed paintings. I don’t have any of these nudes in my shop, but if you’re interested please write me. Below is a screen shot from a video showing how one client framed the nudes. I love how they look on a dark wall in gold frames! I was already planning to put them all in gold frames, but maybe we will need to paint a wall a dark color! It these insane times where we are assaulted daily with such craziness in the news… drawing and painting for a few hours will feel very calming and fun. I hope to see some of you on Sunday! xo Gayle Invite your friends and earn rewardsIf you enjoy Paint What You Love, share it with your friends and earn rewards when they subscribe. |
