For me, I chose a non-traditional path early on in my career. I built a diverse portfolio of work, going self-employed a few years after starting my career in brand/marketing after studying psychology, and then moving into working with Design teams and creative communities of some of the most creative organizations—including Dropbox Design, the kyu Collective, NOBL Collective, and Working Not Working. I became known for my work building and running internal culture & community programs, building employee thought-leadership platforms and toolkits that bring creative energy ✨ into how people work, making teams feel excited to do their most creative and impactful work together. But what I’m actually most proud of is that I built this career while cherishing the freedom to decide how I spend my time—whether that’s working from a buzzing café, traveling through Mexico for 2 months, or wandering through a museum on a Thursday afternoon. In a world where we’re always rushing from one thing to the next, pausing to really think about how we want to work, what success really means to us, and how we want to spend our time is rare. But it’s so essential. Living creatively is about building a life that feels energizing, and inspiring for you, centered around what makes you feel alive. For me, it means: But I don’t think there’s one single definition. 🌬️ Bree connected it to vitality, curiosity, and spontaneity: that sense of possibility, play, and feeling the wind in her hair—literally and metaphorically. Some detours and a lot of good stories… “Optimism x Not Knowing x Play,” she said. 🌿 Gen described it as being fully conscious of what she wants and needs and remembering her power to choose and design her own path. 🌀 Sophie reminded me that all systems are human-made—and we can always create new ones. For her, creativity means that you can create something from anything, breaking rules, inventing new languages with her daughter, and resisting hyper-individualism by creating together, with others and with nature. 🔍 Ashley shared that living creatively is like running constant experiments—seeking new experiences that spark curiosity and help her discover where her strengths lie, and where she needs help. 🎶 Megan Dolce shared her powerful point of view: living creatively is having the freedom to spend three months in a new place, while having a home base somewhere else, or a “Fuck It Budget” allowing for some fun stuff out of the ordinary, like spending 10K to go see Bad Bunny in Mexico City with premium tickets, just because. Reading these answers side by side, what stands out is how different yet overlapping they are. For some, a Creative Way of Living is about curiosity and play. For others, it’s about agency, experimentation, or connection. But what ties them together is a refusal to settle for autopilot living. If you’re thinking about your next role, refining your path, starting the creative project you've been dreaming of, or are ready to dive deeper into exploring your next chapter, join us for our upcoming group coaching program — Creative Ways of Living, kicking off Oct 15th. Together, we’ll dive into your values, identity and goals, which is where clarity starts to take shape, expand your field of possibility in what your life path might look like, and build rituals and practices that don’t just get you through your days, but make you feel excited! This is about moving from being stuck and overwhelmed to inspired and energized. And create a work/life that makes you feel alive. ✨ Applications for our October cohort are now open. If this resonates, I’d love for you to join us. Alice Katter is a Creative Work/Life Coach and Founder of Out of Office. Originally from Austria, she has lived in Vienna, London, and NYC.
