This week, in Vienna, where we’re spending some time to enjoy the beautiful last weeks of summer/early fall, visiting friends, going for lots and lots of park walks (Augarten Park in Vienna is my fav, we used to live around here, and it’s so beautiful) and celebrating my husband’s birthday. Today I want to talk a little more about work/careers. ![]() Augarten Park in Vienna on a sunny day, and a few days later, where fall kicked in (now in full foliage season) When I first started working, I quickly realized the traditional path wasn’t for me. I wasn’t excited about climbing the corporate ladder, as I felt that path and environment didn’t allow me to fully unfold as my multi-passionate, ambitious self. What I craved instead was freedom and flexibility, space to experiment and follow my curiosities, to work and collaborate with people who spark my interest, to live in different cities and countries and let each place spark new perspectives, and to lean into this sense of opportunity that I got when talking to potential collaborators and new friends who also wanted to do some cool stuff. Over the years, I became self-employed, started many fun side projects, and collaborated with some of the most creative teams in the world. And also, there were/are definitely hard moments, where I was asking myself what I was doing and wishing someone would just put some work on my plate so I don’t have to take care of EVERYTHING 😂 (getting the work in, doing the work, etc. etc.). But being someone who loves to connect with people, loves dreaming up new ideas and projects, I always came back to this model of work being the right one for me. And most importantly, I realized my work was not taking me off course from living a life that I love — it even fuels it. For me, life doesn’t happen at the edges of my work; life stays at the center, and work is a part of it. That’s when my days feel alive, energizing, and creative. That’s really what Creative Ways of Living is about. And that’s what we’re looking at in our upcoming cohort. If you’re thinking about your next role, refining your career path, or wondering what’s next, we don’t look at this through a traditional “career coaching” lens of polishing your resume. It’s not about fitting yourself into a mold, or optimizing for climbing the ladder. Instead, it’s about designing a work-life that feels true to you. One where your career doesn’t swallow your identity, but supports the life you actually want to live. We start with life first. You’ll leave with clarity on your path and tools to move toward it. But more importantly, you’ll step into ownership of what your version of a GOOD LIFE looks like: redefining success on your own terms, experimenting with new rituals and habits that keep curiosity alive in your everyday, and building a compass that guides you toward a more vibrant and creative future. So, yes, it’s a program about how we live. But it’s also career coaching — just not in the traditional sense. From there, the career piece naturally unfolds. Because when you’re grounded in what feels true, the roles, opportunities, and collaborations that fit you become much clearer, and synchronicity will start to happen, where you fall into opportunities and connect with people that feel aligned. That’s what I have experienced, and that’s what I love most about how I work. So if you’re at a turning point — whether you’re rethinking your next role, refining your path, or simply ready to feel more alive in your days — this is career coaching, too. Just one that puts life first, always. If this resonates, I’d love for you to join us ✏️ Our next Creative Ways of Living kicks off Wednesday, Oct 15th, COHORT START DATE: Wed, Oct 15th If you have any questions or thoughts about this approach, as always, please do comment or send me a DM or email me at hello@alicekatter.com Alice Katter is a Creative Work/Life Coach and Founder of Out of Office.
