Hello & welcome to the Out of Office—your inspiration and guide for a life that feels more alive, inspiring & creative. 🌳🎨 For those who are new here, I’m so excited you found our little corner of the internet. To access our full content, including creative travel guides, tools and Field Trips Platform — with curated places to work, play and connect — become a paid member 🧡 This summer might have given you a taste of what a full, vibrant life can feel like. It might have been a slow morning, a nice walk along a beach, an ice cream work-break with a friend, listening to the birds, a visit to the local farmers market with all its abundance of ripe tomatoes, figs, or peaches, depending on where in the world you are. But then, it’s so so easy to fall back into business-as-usual. Many aspects of our work culture — such as the stigmas of a CV gap, taking vacation for more than one week, reducing hours to less than full-time, treating work as just work rather than the entirety of life, or yes, even taking an ice-cream break in the middle of the day — make it unreasonably difficult to engage in healthier ways of working and living. Everything we read online, every app we use for sharing what we love or building our business on, every career path we hear about carry the same message: grow bigger, earn more, and chase the next promotion. It’s easy to get pulled into this way of thinking — I still do, again and again. When I worked as a contractor for a tech company in the US a couple of years ago, they offered me a full-time job. On one hand, I felt really humbled and tempted thinking, “Maybe I should take it. To feel „legit“ as someone who works at xx. For the title. For the benefits. For the good, stable money.“ And sometimes, that can be a great option. But then I remembered what I really wanted. I didn’t want to spend my energy on office politics or on paving the way for promotions. I didn’t want to grow into managing a team. I wanted the flexibility to travel and work from different countries. I wanted slow summers in Europe. I wanted to collaborate with inspiring people in my orbit without sneaking around a 9–5. I wanted to be able to drop into a yoga class at 10:30 am on a Thursday, afterwards grab breakfast with a friend, or go to the farmers’ market in the middle of the week. And make a good income that can sustain my lifestyle and build my dreams. So it wasn’t aligned with my values and what I wanted in my lift. When I look at that list, what I really value becomes clear: → Flexibility & freedom → A zest for life — pursuing what makes me feel alive, whether through my work, collaborations, or creations → Collaboration & creative freedom — the space to follow my curiosity and work with people who spark my interest → Financial stability — enough to live my lifestyle, and able to invest in the projects, ideas, and dreams that excite me (whether that’s my own business, a friend’s business, a future home etc.) This is part of what we’re talking about in our upcoming Creative Ways of Living Cohort (CWOL), starting on Oct 15th. We find the things within you that make you feel alive, and redefine what success means to you. We expand our imagination to different paths of living and working. To create a way of living and working that feels energizing and inspiring. Where work doesn’t take over your life. But make space for different areas of your life. A life where you’re not rushing through the week, and only waiting for the weekend to arrive. If you often think about what you could do, but never do it, this is the place for you to lean into a new way of living. As Oliver Burkeman wrote, „To take action is to risk that it might fail, or that it might succeed; that it might lead to big changes or no changes at all. Not taking action is the more comfortable alternative to the more uncomfortable intensity of actually living.” With this cohort, we’ll help you jump out of your comfort zone, and over the fence. And into actually living. I hope you’ll join us ✨ Alice Alice Katter is a Creative Work Culture Consultant and Founder of Out of Office.
