"Just finished "Heartwood" — my favorite read of the summer so far. A literary thriller set in the wilderness, full of fractured relationships, Appalachian survival, and a mystery that had me fully engaged. " [Check it out]
A Reader Comment We Love:
"Yesterday, I brought my 9-year-old daughter to help out at our community garden. We made a deal — 30 minutes of weeding in exchange for boba. At one point, I found her sitting quietly on a stepping stone surrounded by flowers. When I asked what she was doing, she replied, "studying the bee lifecycle." I got frustrated and told her she needed to be productive.
But reading this made me realize how wrong I was. Next time we visit the garden, I'm going to skip the weeding after watering and instead invite her on a slow Awe Walk through the shared spaces. I do want her to develop a strong work ethic — but more than that, I want us both to stay connected to wonder, curiosity, and the beauty of slowing down. Sometimes, the most meaningful moments come when we stop trying to be productive." (We're crying, love this realization so much, Anon! Happy gardening to you and your daughter 🐝)
