In honor of May and Maternal Mental Health Week, ADAA is delighted to present the free, live public webinar "Psychiatric Medication in Pregnancy and Lactation: What Can Women Take?" with Barbara Byers, MD, MPH.

 

Please join us on Tuesday, May 6 as Dr. Byers reviews what we know about the treatment of psychiatric disorders in pregnancy and lactation from a medication standpoint. We will review our knowledge of antidepressants, mood stabilizers, atypical antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, and stimulants.

 

 

Meet the Presenter

Barbara Byers, MD, MPH, is the co-founder of Capital Mental Health and is an adult and reproductive psychiatrist in Chevy Chase, MD, specializing in the treatment of women who have mood and anxiety disorders surrounding the perinatal period. She also is the Co-Founder of the DC Metro Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative. Dr. Byers served as the medical director of the Women's Mental Health Program at Georgetown University Hospital from 2008-2012, where she clinically managed patients and taught residents and faculty about perinatal mental health. .

On Tuesday, May 20, in recognition of National Trauma Survivor's Day, guest speaker Nicholas Ruchlewicz will share his personal journey through post-traumatic growth. His presentation will include discussion of visible and invisible scars, CBT and asking the tough questions of ourselves, and regaining control by choosing our responses.

Meet the Presenter

Nicholas Ruchlewicz was in a single vehicle motorcycle crash on March 15, 2016, and suffered a separated pelvic circle, broken Sacro-iliac, crushed left orbital, massive concussion, and a right-side brain bleed and hematoma. He was in ICU, for 2 weeks, non-cognizant, then in an acute rehab hospital for 2 weeks, learning how to focus, move his left side, and see. His trauma and brain injury have allowed him to become an advocate, he calls it "A Gift of Perspective".
