Sometimes, I forget that I can add fruit to water. I don’t know why this is! It’s a great way to add flavor without any added sugars, sodium, or food dyes. Usually, I’m reminded of this when I'm offered a lemon slice in my water at a restaurant, but you can add other fruits, too. So if plain water is just not doing it for you, don’t worry — today, we’ll be going over some of the benefits of adding limes to your water.

The benefits of lime water
Adding limes to your water can be a simple way to elevate plain water, especially during the warmer months. But it’s more than just a tasty addition! Aside from helping you drink more water, lime water may offer additional health benefits.
On their own, limes are a good source of antioxidants. These are compounds that protect your body by preventing cellular damage. They are also a good source of potassium, calcium, magnesium, B vitamins, and vitamins A, C, and D.
Other benefits include:
- 🧴 Younger-looking skin: Limes contain flavonoids, which are antioxidants that can help strengthen collagen. Collagen may help improve skin health by hydrating the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles.
- 🌡️ Strengthening the immune system: Antioxidants and vitamin C, which are present in many foods (limes being one of them), can help support your immune system and help your body fight off viral infections, like the cold and flu.
- ⚖️ Supporting weight loss: Some animal studies have found that vitamin C intake contributes to weight loss. However, more high quality research in humans is needed to verify these findings.
- 🫀 Improving heart health: Limes are a good source of potassium, which can help lower blood pressure and support blood circulation. Both of these factors may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Limes also contain a compound called limonin, which may help reduce cholesterol levels.
