Anxiety and Depression Association of America

Join us for a free, live webinar on May 5 featuring ADAA member expert Candice L. Odgers, PhD, to explore how best to support adolescent mental health in an increasingly digital age.

Rates of adolescent depression, sadness, and anxiety have increased over the past decade. In response, governments around the world are proposing or enacting bans on youth access to social media, citing it as a potential contributor to the youth mental health crisis. Dr. Odgers will review what is currently known about the impact of smartphones and social media on adolescent mental health and share new findings from research tracking young adolescents’ real-world digital experiences.

This session will help participants:

  • Understand current trends in youth mental health
  • Examine what research to date shows about the connection between social media and youth mental health
  • Identify gaps between common narratives about social media and the evidence from carefully designed studies
  • Learn evidence-based practices and principles to support young people online

Attendees will gain a clearer, research-informed understanding of how digital technology influences adolescent mental health and how to effectively support young people in today’s connected world.
