We're also inviting you to join our free online course, Steady in Uncertain Times, which offers practical tools to understand anxiety and build resilience. And if you've ever wondered what actually happens in a counselling session, we've answered this common question in a new FAQ — a helpful place to start if you've been considering whether support might be right for you.
| | | New Resource What is Eco-Anxiety? Eco‑anxiety, climate anxiety, and weather‑related trauma are all natural responses to living in a world where environmental change and extreme weather events are becoming more visible and more personal. In this article, we explore what these experiences look like — from everyday worry about the planet's wellbeing, through to the deep fear and grief that can follow major climate events or environmental loss. We explain the difference between eco‑anxiety (concerns about environmental degradation), climate anxiety (worry specifically related to climate change), and weather trauma (anxiety linked to past extreme weather events that may still affect how we feel and behave today). It's common to experience stress when environmental concerns affect our homes, communities and sense of safety. Understanding the emotional and physical symptoms of these forms of anxiety can help us respond with compassion, recognise when support might be needed, and take meaningful action without becoming overwhelmed.

| | | | Frequently Asked Question: What actually happens in a counselling session? | | | | Starting counselling can feel like a big step — especially if you're not sure what to expect. In your first session, your counsellor will take time to get to know you and understand what's been going on in your life. You might talk about what's been feeling difficult lately, what you'd like support with, or any goals you have for your wellbeing — but there's no pressure to share everything straight away. Counselling is a collaborative process. Together, you and your counsellor might: - Explore patterns in thoughts, emotions, or behaviours
- Learn practical tools to manage anxiety, stress, low mood, or overwhelm
- Work through challenging experiences in a safe, supportive space
- Build confidence in coping with uncertainty or change
- Develop strategies to improve relationships, sleep, motivation, or daily functioning
Some sessions are focused on talking things through. Others may include learning new techniques — such as grounding skills, problem‑solving strategies, or ways to respond differently to difficult thoughts and feelings. You set the pace, and you're always in control of what you do and don't want to discuss.
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Many people seek support for things like ongoing stress, feeling stuck, life transitions, relationship challenges, or simply wanting a space to talk things through with someone impartial.
