I’m so excited because my summer exhibition in Leland, Michigan is starting to feel very real! I’ll be there for two full weeks in August, and we’ve planned some wonderful events around the show—an opening reception on August 7, a talk with a one-hour workshop a few days later, a playful Let’s Draw Monsters kids workshop, and a full-day painting and drawing workshop on the final day of the exhibition. Perfectly Imperfect: A Full-Day Painting & Drawing Workshop with Gayle Kabaker
Spend the day painting and drawing for fun in this relaxed, creative workshop. Participants will draw and paint from a still life and from what’s around them, learning to observe the world with fresh eyes. Gayle will guide you in developing a fun and sustainable sketchbook practice, showing how to draw and paint not only what you see, but how to interpret it—transforming observation into something expressive, playful, and uniquely your own. ( video below) This represents a fraction of the drawings and paintings I’ve made over the past five years during our Zoom life drawing sessions with friends. It’s incredibly satisfying to finally see them all together. My husband Peter made these beautiful backings for them—they have a wonderful weight while still staying light. They’ll be displayed on one long wall, and I’m hoping people might enjoy collecting them as small( or large!) series. I’m trying not to feel overwhelmed, but everything still needs to be photographed and framed by May 1 to make it onto that truck from Boston to Leland. Here’s a little preview.

I’ve already had a few print orders for Leland Clothesline (above), so since people seem to love it, I’ll likely offer a limited series of prints. I’m also making a fun 22” cotton bandana inspired by the painting. I have a question for you: Should I hand-write Hunting for Petoskey Stones — Leland, Michigan on the scarf itself? I’m leaning toward the hang tag, but I’d love your thoughts.
