How rich would you be if you had a dollar for every time you decided not to “bother” someone? Anxiety lives in how we connect, or don’t connect, with others. People often worry about texting a friend too much, or always being the first to initiate a hang. They assume people aren’t interested in hearing about their weird hobbies or the challenges they’ve encountered. They assume that people are too busy hanging out with everyone else. Despite little to no data. But isn’t it useful to be considerate of others? To be self-aware? I’d argue there’s little to no self-awareness in any of these postures. Because the focus is on the other, not on how to manage yourself. Let me give you a few examples of how people get more confident in their contact, and less focused on being a bother.
