Should you delay your morning coffee?

I tried it so you don't have to.

In a Nutshell
Delaying your morning coffee for at least 2 hours after waking is a health trend that has been gaining popularity on social media. Proponents of the practice argue that it prevents a spike in cortisol and can prevent a drop in energy levels in the afternoon. But is this really true? (And worth prolonging what some might consider the best part of the morning?)
I decided to try this for 1 week to see for myself. Keep reading for my experience.

Is this new health trend worth the hype?
what's got us buzzing
Is this new health trend worth the hype?
First, it's worth noting that limited high quality research points toward delaying caffeine intake to help reduce cortisol or prevent an afternoon "crash," which is supposed to be the catch here. However, there's little harm in changing the time of day I drink coffee, so I gave it a go.
I typically wake up around 8:30 a.m. and drink two shots of dark roast espresso from my espresso machine, which provides around 130 milligrams of caffeine in total. I usually drink my coffee within 30 minutes of waking up and before eating any food.
For this experiment, I maintained my usual intake and delayed starting to drink it until at least 10:30 a.m.
Did I notice a change in my energy levels, feelings of focus, or any benefits from this experiment? No. In fact, I actually experienced some negative effects from this change-up.
Check out my full write-up below to find out how it went, and what you could do differently if you decide to try out the trend yourself.
