Hey friend,
Super excited for this new video on why focusing is so difficult when you have ADHD, including 3 strategies for better focus!
Video: Why Is Focusing So Hard With ADHD?
You'll want to check out the whole video, but here's a quick preview of the strategies I talk about:
- Use External Filters. We can't rely on the filters in our head to block out distractions, so we need to make external filters to keep those distractions from reaching out senses.
- Add Guiding Bumpers. In addition to blocking out the distractions, we need to add pointers that reflect our focus back to the thing we're intending to focus on. Writing down your intentions, using visual timers to remind you that it's focused work time, etc.
- Don't Be Efficient. This might sound counter-intuitive, but I often fall into the trap of trying so hard to be efficient, that the goal of efficiency actually becomes my primary distraction. I can't multitask my way into perfect focus.
P.S. For parents of ADHDers, an exciting FREE event is happening next week, TEFOS: The Executive Function Online Summit for Parents.
I'm super excited to be a speaker this year!
TEFOS was one of the first resources I found many years ago when my daughter and I were first diagnosed with ADHD, and I learned so much about how to help support my kids with their executive function challenges thanks to the incredible experts at this virtual conference, so it's an honor to be a part this year.
Sign up for free today and don't forget to mark your calendars for August 15-18th!
