Why summer clothes stress me out

The heat is not my friend ...

In a Nutshell
Call me a buzzkill, but summer is my least favorite season. I know, I know — let me explain.
Summer exacerbates my sensory issues. The constant sweating and legs sticking to seats are annoying, but my biggest challenge is figuring out what to wear. Not feeling comfortable in anything, even though I have a closet full of clothes, really stresses me out.
Below, read more about the link between summer style and my mental health. I'd also love to know if you can relate or have tips that might help me stay cool and comfortable!

SOS: I never know what to wear in the summer
what's got us buzzing
SOS: I never know what to wear in the summer
I do enjoy the sunshine and longer days of summer, but the everyday battle of raiding my closet for something to wear takes so much energy out of me. A cotton T-shirt and pants is the best outfit combo (in my humble opinion), and I'll gladly die on that hill. But it's just not realistic when it's 95°F outside — that outfit is way too heavy and will lead to me overheating.
In summers past, you'd typically find me wearing jean shorts or skin-tight biker shorts and a spaghetti-strap top. I dressed this way despite the fact that I couldn't wait to get home to jump into loose clothes because I thought that wearing smaller/fewer clothes would help me better handle the heat. Then, 2 years ago, I learned that I'm autistic, and the way I dress totally changed.
Learning about the symptoms of autism helped me finally put a name to the many sensory issues I had always lived with. I recognized that tight clothes actually feel restricting, leading me to fixate on just how uncomfortable I am throughout the day.
So far this summer, I'm wearing looser cotton T-shirts and crop tops with baggier shorts. It feels better, for sure, but I don't quite know what to do about the days when a cotton tee feels too heavy. I've never liked wearing dresses or skirts, so that's out of the question. Which materials are best? Are there certain brands that cater to people like me? What do I wear?!
💌 Let's talk: I'm accepting any and all suggestions that can lead me to my sensory-friendly summer style! If you're in a similar situation or you have advice to share, please email wellnesswire@healthline.com.

Woxer Luxe Bralette
Woxer Luxe Bralette
I thought Woxer's original bras were the best … until I tried the brand's Luxe line. I've been wearing my Luxe bralette for the last month now, and it's the comfiest, silkiest, softest bra I own. I also lounge around in their equally cozy boxer shorts. Woxer's products are my absolute favorite.

If you're in the market for a new sports bra or everyday bra without underwire, I highly recommend checking out this brand and their sensory-friendly products. (Fun fact: The first time I ever put on a Woxer bra, I cried because it was so comfortable.)
