| | There's no magic formula for instant hair growth. But there are many things you can do to help your hair grow faster and stronger. Let's explore some of those options today, shall we? | | | | Be well, Morgan Mandriota Newsletter Editor, Healthline | | | Written by Morgan Mandriota June 25, 2025 • 3 min read | | | | | | |
| | | How to help your hair grow faster and stronger | According to a 2023 study, your hair grows about half an inch per month on average. Here are natural steps you can take to help boost the health and growth of your hair. | - Increase your nutrient profile: Some nutritional deficiencies, including iron, protein, zinc, folic acid, and vitamins A, D, and E, can affect hair growth. Similarly, try to avoid restrictive dieting, which can decrease the nutrients your hair needs to grow.
- Indulge in a scalp massage: A scalp massage can increase blood flow, which may improve overall scalp and hair health. It's also relaxing, but could, in theory, cut down on stress-related hair issues.
- Hold the heat: The heat from curling irons, hair dryers, and straighteners can damage your hair and cause breakage. Limit how often you use hot tools, and keep the temperature low while using them.
- Go easy on coloring your hair: Hair dye can remove the natural fatty acids that make up your hair. Permanent dyes are more harmful than non-permanent ones, but aim to avoid any coloring products if possible.
- Get regular haircuts: Trimming your hair every few months can help boost healthy hair growth by removing split ends. (However, it's a myth that trims can make your hair grow faster.)
- Protect your hair while you sleep: Not sleeping enough can decrease your body's production of melatonin, which plays a role in hair growth. Try to get at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night. Also, use a silk or satin pillowcase, and avoid going to bed with wet hair to help prevent breakage.
| If you're concerned about hair loss or have trouble getting your hair to grow, speak with a doctor to find out why this may be happening. | | | | | | | Let it grow | | Sponsored by | | | | | | | Hims Minoxidil for Men | Topical minoxidil is a popular hair loss treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Hims offers an extra-strength version that you can apply to your head twice a day to try and stimulate hair growth. Keep in mind that minoxidil can potentially lead to an itchy, dry, scaly, irritated, or burning scalp, so be sure to consult your doctor before using it. | | Every product we recommend has gone through either Healthline's or Optum Now's vetting processes.
