| It’s June! A month that insists upon patio hangs and ice cream cones and, if you live in Seattle, a rain coat packed away just in case! Yahoo! Leaving behind this May will be tough, though. For one, I got married (more on that toward the end of the email, though I’ll be doing a full recap once we get our photos back!). I also spent a LOT of time with family and friends I haven’t seen in a while, ate well, and even read two books I just adored. With that, welcome to my May favorites. Hit Me Hard and Soft by Billie Eilish — we knew this was coming. But still! Billie has mastered punching me right in the gut with one song and then making me want to dance to the next one. My favorites so far: “L’amour De Ma Vie” and “Chihiro.” The song “Tarlabasi” (specifically the Be Svendsen remix) by Oceanvs Orientalis, originally introduced by a friend and later rediscovered at my yoga class. So hypnotic. The Spark by Kabin Crew & Lisdoonvarna Crew — the viral banger by a group of kids from Ireland that will 100% get stuck in your head (and you won’t be mad about it!). Highly recommend watching the music video for the full experience.
Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin, read in one day on my mini-moon. Had no idea where it was going and just loved the writing style. A page turner with depth and wit. Big Familia by Tomas Moniz, purchased at my beloved neighborhood bookstore on a total whim (with that cover art, how could I not?). Such an earnest and funny novel following a single dad as he navigates his own identity, his relationship with his daughter, and his place in his own family (as well as his chosen family). Charmed me deeply.
Strawberries. Just in general. What a fantastic fruit. (And if you buy a ton of them, make this cake my friend Carlie introduced me to!) Frosted brown sugar Poptarts — mentioned in one of my recent sketchbook diaries, but these deserve a spot in the monthly faves, too. Toasted, cinnamon-y, gooey — they satisfy my deepest cravings (and make the house smell great!). The scones at Posthotel, where Gideon and I spent the week after our wedding. Honestly, the whole experience was a fave, but I really looked forward to spreading Devonshire cream and raspberry jam on those bad boys every morning.
Baby Reindeer, oh my god. What a stressful, enrapturing show. Follows an aspiring comedian named Donny as he both deals with a stalker and circles around a devastating trauma from his past. Funny, heartbreaking, anxiety-inducing, great. A rewatch of Sex in the City – currently on the season where Charlotte is married to Trey. If you know, you KNOW.
