Great Smoky Mountains National Park just expanded its adaptive excursions, helping disabled visitors bike, camp, and kayak
After launching its free adaptive programming last year with four events, this year, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is offering even more: three hikes, two mountain bike rides, one kayak trip, and one night of camping.
Adaptive excursions like these are made possible by programs with experts who provide equipment and knowledge to park-goers, like Catalyst Sports, whose programs help make the outdoors more accessible.

This week (May 6-10) is Teacher Appreciation Week! This annual celebration is an opportunity to show teachers they are valued, appreciated, and deserving of more support.
National Education Association surveys have found that over 55% of teachers plan to leave the profession sooner than they planned to — and while that has dire consequences for children and our communities, improving teacher well-being is at the heart of the issue.
Teacher appreciation is important — vital, even — but remember that it's the first step in building a world where educators are supported, cherished, and funded wholeheartedly. Here are some ways to get started this week!
Give a thoughtful, meaningful gift. Sometimes the most impactful gift is a gift card — so teachers can spend money how they'd like! Consider what would make the teacher feel seen and appreciated — or send your kid on a secret mission to ask their teacher about their interests, hobbies, or favorite stores. Or even go in on a larger group gift with others!
Donate classroom supplies. Teachers in America spend an average of $500 a year (of their own money!) on classroom supplies. Whether you have a kid in school or are a community member who cares about teachers (and their students!) — check out a teacher's Amazon wish list, or just ask them directly what they could use more of.
Advocate for policies that support teachers. Across the country, teachers face budget cuts, discrimination against marginalized communities, attacks on diverse curricula, and more — on top of being on the front lines of gun violence in schools. Advocate for policies that financially support teachers and against policies that make their jobs even harder.

What's good?
While my little one is too young for school, I know so many teachers who deserve appreciation!
What's your favorite way to appreciate teachers in your life? (Or if you're a teacher — what makes you feel most appreciated!?)
Hit "reply" and tell me (I'm making mental notes)!
