Which snacks are good for low blood sugar?
Low blood sugar is also known as hypoglycemia. People with diabetes are more likely to have low levels as part of their condition, but you don't have to have diabetes to experience hypoglycemia.
Eating regular meals with healthy snacks in between can help keep your blood sugar stable throughout the day. Just be sure to follow the rule of 15 when snacking to avoid overdoing it!
🍌 Enjoy these fruit options:
  • raisins
  • grapes
  • Medjool dates
  • applesauce
  • bananas
  • pineapple
⏰ Try one of these midafternoon snacks:
  • a no-sugar variety of peanut butter on whole wheat bread or crackers
  • a cup of brown rice with kidney beans
  • veggies and hummus
💪 Consider eating before exercising:
  • Greek yogurt with berries
  • an apple with peanut butter
  • a small handful of raisins and nuts
  • fruit and crackers
Snacks rich in protein, fiber, and healthy fats may also help stabilize blood glucose levels overnight. Before bed, try eating a high protein, low sugar brand of Greek yogurt coupled with berries and walnuts, or a no-sugar vegetable smoothie.
⚠️ If your blood sugar is severely low (below 54 mg/dL), you may not be able to treat yourself. You might need an injection of glucagon or someone's assistance with treatment.
