| | | One of my yoga teacher's favorite sayings is, "It's not sustainable if it's not fun!" | | I find this refrain helpful to remember whenever I'm faced with doing something I feel like I have to do. For example, I enjoy cooking, so I try to cook a new recipe each week. This helps me eat more meals at home and feel more excited about the food that I'm eating. | | Today, Brooke Feehan, a health coach at our sister brand Real Appeal, has some more tips for making healthy living more fun. | | | | | | | Eat up, Ginger Wojcik Newsletter Editor, Healthline | | | Written by Ginger Wojcik September 30, 2025 • 4.5 min read | | | | | | | | | | Q: | Making healthy lifestyle changes can be a drag. What are some ways I can make these changes feel less challenging and maybe even fun? | | | A: | Even the most motivated people can sometimes feel overwhelmed by the thought of lifestyle change, and that's because change is hard! We become used to our daily routine, and forming new habits takes time, even when we know they are necessary. If you're feeling stuck before taking that first step, check out these tips below. - Start small: You know that old saying, "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." The same principle applies here. Focusing on small goals, one at a time, can help things feel more attainable. Want to hit your water intake goal? Try adding one more glass!
- Try something new: Sometimes, our routines need a little shaking up. Trying something new and exciting can motivate you to build consistency around those changes. On the physical side of things, you can check out your local fitness or community center for fun workouts and classes. Is there a vegetable or dish that you've always been curious about but haven't tried? Now is your chance! (Check out Healthline's recipe center for cooking inspo!)
- Build on what you love: While trying something new can help you find your motivation, sticking with the healthy habits you already enjoy can help things feel more sustainable. For example, do you love taking your dogs on an evening walk after dinner? Maybe trek a little further next time, or try to pick up your pace. Building on the activities and routines that you already know can help the changes seem more feasible.
- Show yourself grace: Like I said earlier, change is hard, and slip-ups are bound to happen. Don't beat yourself up when things go awry! Grace and kindness are vital on the habit-change journey, and it's OK to acknowledge that things didn't go as planned and get back on track.
Lifestyle change is 100% possible, and finding that motivation is the first step to success! Don't let the fear of challenges stop you from creating the life you deserve to live.
Take it one step at a time, and don't forget to celebrate your efforts along the way. All victories deserve recognition, regardless of how big or small the feat is. Take a breath. Take your next step, and always remember that you've got this! | | | | | Brooke Feehan, Health Coach | | | Want to learn more about food, diets, cooking, or some other nutrition subject?
