When I say "you should just do it right now..." what is the task that immediately comes to mind?
There's probably something you've been avoiding that just lingers in the back of your brain. It may even cloud over your thoughts, looming in the background.
The "Do It Now" principle is simply the idea that as soon as you think of "that thing" you should immediately start doing it.
"I have to put away the leftovers tonight" Do it now!
"I need to renew my business license" Do it now!
"I haven't texted my friend in awhile" Do it now!
The reality is, when you're thinking of those things in the moment, it's likely because you know it's important or it's something that you've forgotten to do in the past, so it jumps out for a moment in your mind to try to grab your attention.
But just because it's important, doesn't mean we'll magically remember or be motivated to do it later.
With ADHD, we need to seize those opportunities when our brain tries to get our attention. Try to act on instinct and respond immediately to those little thoughts.
Even if you can't complete the full task, get it started so you can make forward progress instead of hoping for that magic moment later.
