In a Nutshell
I've been using two different air purifiers in my apartment for years now. I have a Mila in my kitchen and a Clorox smart medium air purifier in my office, where I keep my cat's litter box.
Both of these devices link to their respective smartphone app, so I can monitor the air quality index (AQI) throughout my home on my phone. I can confidently say that the kitchen no longer has a faint odor of garbage and wet cat food, and my office doesn't smell like cat litter (read: poop) anymore. It also works wonders when there's wildfire smoke pollution in my area.
Keep reading to learn more about air purifiers and why you might want one in your space.

What air purifiers can and can't do for your home
The potential benefits of air purifiers depend on many factors, like the type of filter, which pollutants it targets, the size of your space, and how consistently it's used. An effective air purifier may also be able to help:
  • relieve allergic symptoms by reducing allergens in the air
  • reduce the amount of dust particles
  • lessen triggers that cause asthma symptoms or attacks
  • capture airborne particles that may carry viruses
Keep in mind that these devices don't magically eliminate *all* allergens from your home. They also may not work on specific particles, such as:
  • mold
  • nicotine and other gaseous pollutants
  • animal dander, especially from rodent infestation
  • cockroach allergens
  • some types of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
  • larger, heavier allergens, such as dust mites and pollen, which may settle to the ground faster than an air purifier can capture them
Air purifiers work best alongside other home air purification strategies, like proper ventilation, optimized humidity, and regular house cleaning. For more tips on how to clean your home to support better health, check out our article below.
