It was such a special trip and we LOVED exploring this beautiful country. While there are SO many places you can visit in Japan, with so much variety, it can be quite overwhelming. We chose a couple of places, based on the idea that we wanted to soak up some local culture and get a sense for how people live, want to experience the craft, architecture and art spaces of the country, and also wanted some time away from the city, hiking and relaxing in nature. So this is what this guide is about. ![]() 🔒 What can you expect behind the paywall? Ok let’s get into it! 🏙️ OsakaOur first stop was Osaka. I loved Osaka, which felt very local, with lots of different neighborhoods to explore, amazing vintage and clothing stores, great food to get into the Japanese cuisine without being too overwhelmed by too many options (which I definitely found to be the case in Tokyo), quite casual with hidden sanctuaries, onsens (Japanese public baths, which you can find at every corner and are a REAL cultural immersion, so highly recommended!!) and tea rooms (🍵) in between. Areas I loved: Fukushima for strolling and finding hidden restaurants and cafes, Nakazaki for vintage stores, nice shops and lots of cute tea houses, Nishi Ward for restaurants, coffeeshops, and just wandering through the local non-touristy streets. ☕️ Coffeeshops & Tea Houses
