Hello and welcome to Notes from the Field!
A new-ish monthly series where we’ll share what’s inspiring us, favorite finds, as well as recommendations for and from the community. With August, we’ve stepped into the second half of the year. Rather than stressing out about how fast time goes, and what you might not have yet done this year, take this as a time to remember how far you’ve come, honor your journey and the season of life you’re currently in, and find peace in the ever-developing story of becoming more and more you. August is sunflower season, which is one of my favorite flowers. She gets her name from her likeliness to the appearance of the sun, displaying a radiance of yellow and a round, sun-like face. She repositions herself so that her face is always pointed towards the sun (also me) and for this has become a symbol of adoration and loyalty in many traditions. For Native Americans, the sunflower is a symbol of abundance What we’re up to this month! We’re putting the final touches (menu planning, programming, brand partners, oh yes!) on our first ever in-person Out of Office Residency, which is taking place in Northern Italy this September! Together with 6 wonderful residents, our chef-in-residence, as well as a handful of local practitioners, we’ll put into practice many of OOO’s core principles—such as SLOWING DOWN, CONNECTING WITH OTHERS, EXPLORATION and PLAY! Nestled in a small mountain village, we’ll experiment with more regenerative ways of living and working and celebrate seasonal rhythms. We’ll take part in guided foraging walks, break bread together, and enjoy freshly cooked Italian meals. We’ll craft, share our skills, and use our hands. We’ll swim in lakes and expand our horizons—and forge meaningful connections along the way. We can’t wait.
Online Community Event: OOO Designing the Post-Office — Shareback For our online community, we’ll be hosting a share-out session, to report back on our learnings from our social experiment to connect modern workers with tools & goods.
